Dieser Lehm, gemischt mit Steinsalz und Gips, wird <em>Mattaione <\/em>genannt und stammt aus den Sedimenten des Meeres, das vor \u00fcber 2 Millionen Jahren das Gebiet bedeckte. <\/p>\n<p>Mit dem R\u00fcckgang des Wassers bildeten sich die typischen <strong>Calanchi<\/strong>, tiefe Furchen an den H\u00e4ngen der H\u00fcgel. Typisch und charakteristisch f\u00fcr diese Gegend sind auch die <strong>Biancane<\/strong>, kleine, kalkreiche Erhebungen in Form von \"Kuppeln\" und \"Messern\". <\/p>\n<p>Der Lehm- oder Tonanteil im Boden verleiht der Landschaft ihre charakteristische <strong>grau-blaue<\/strong> Farbe, die aufgrund der darin enthaltenen Salze manchmal auch <strong>wei\u00dflich <\/strong>erscheint. Das Ergebnis ist eine fast <em>mond\u00e4hnliche <\/em>Landschaft. <\/p>\n<p>Die Landschaft ist sehr abwechslungsreich in ihrem Aussehen und ihren Farben. Je nach Jahreszeit und Anbau auf den Feldern wechselt sie vom leuchtenden Gr\u00fcn des Fr\u00fchlings \u00fcber das Gelb des Weizens und der Sonnenblumen w\u00e4hrend der Erntezeit bis hin zu den goldenen Farbt\u00f6nen des Sommers, wenn die Ernte beendet ist und die ber\u00fchmten \"Rundballen\" erscheinen.
