Seine <strong>strategische Lage<\/strong> erlaubte es, zun\u00e4chst Colle Val d'Elsa und Staggia zu kontrollieren und dann zu bewundern.<\/p>\n<p>Die <strong>perfekte Kreisform<\/strong> des Umfangs wurde erreicht, indem man den nat\u00fcrlichen Konturen des Gel\u00e4ndes folgte. Die Mauern von Monteriggioni haben einen Umfang von 570 Metern und wurden zwischen 1212 und 1219 erh\u00f6ht, um dann 1260-70 verst\u00e4rkt zu werden.<\/p>\n<p>Die intakten Stadtmauern bestehen aus <strong>14 T\u00fcrmen und 2 Toren<\/strong>. Die Porta Franca oder Romea in Richtung Rom und die Porta Fiorentina in Richtung Florenz. All dies zeigt seine Erhabenheit, die auch heute noch \u00fcberrascht.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Piazza Roma<\/strong>, das Herz des Dorfes, ist von Wiesen und Gem\u00fcseg\u00e4rten umgeben, die einst f\u00fcr das \u00dcberleben der Bev\u00f6lkerung im Falle einer Belagerung n\u00fctzlich waren. Dies ist der Hauptplatz der Stadt, der von der Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta \u00fcberragt wird. Die kleine Kirche war schon immer das Zentrum des Dorflebens.<\/p>\n<p>Das Prestige und die Einzigartigkeit dieses Ortes genie\u00dfen einen langj\u00e4hrigen Ruf; sogar der Dichter <strong>Dante Alighieri<\/strong> erw\u00e4hnt Monteriggioni in seiner G\u00f6ttlichen Kom\u00f6die, weil er pers\u00f6nlich von diesem beeindruckenden Bauwerk beeindruckt war.<\/p>\n<p>Es gibt <strong>Legenden<\/strong>, die von geheimen Tunneln und unterirdischen G\u00e4ngen erz\u00e4hlen, durch die die Burg mit den nahegelegenen Festungsanlagen in Verbindung stand, und es gibt sogar Geschichten \u00fcber eine Stra\u00dfe, die nach Siena f\u00fchrte.<\/p>\n<p>In den letzten Jahren hat Monteriggioni eine gr\u00f6\u00dfere touristische Bedeutung erlangt, da es vom Europarat in die Route der <strong>Via Francigena<\/strong> aufgenommen wurde und somit Teil der Kulturrouten ist.
